Rivian R1S / R1T Center Console Organizer: How a Daughter's Complaint Became the Best One on the Market

By Matt, Niftly3D

It started with the mail.

Every evening when we pulled into the driveway, my youngest daughter would ask if she could grab the mail from the center console on the way inside. And every evening, the same thing happened — she'd reach in, dig around through the deep, unstructured space, and come up frustrated. Keys, cables, chapstick, a flashlight, spare change — all of it piled at the bottom of what Rivian owners lovingly call the "bottomless pit."

One evening she looked at me and said: "Dad, you have four printers. Can you just fix this?"

So I did.

The Problem With the Rivian Center Console

If you own a Rivian R1S or R1T, you already know what I'm talking about. The center console is genuinely massive — which is one of the things Rivian owners love about it. But that depth creates a real daily frustration: items slide around, get buried, and disappear. You're reaching in blind every time you want something.

We looked at what was available. There were generic car organizers — flimsy plastic trays designed for some average vehicle that sort of fit if you wedged them in right. There were a few products specifically marketed for Rivian, but when we received them, the quality was disappointing. Loose tolerances. Cheap plastic. Things that rattled the moment the truck started moving.

None of them were built the way we build things.

Building It Right: What We Actually Made

I designed the first version for our own truck. A base console with dividers and a bright yellow bottom — both functional and distinctive. When my neighbor saw it, he wanted one. When his friend saw it, she wanted one. That's when I realized this wasn't just a fix for our family — it was something the whole Rivian community needed.

From there, Pri and her sister Bird got involved. Bird handles packing and fulfillment. Pri leads photography and creative direction. I handle engineering and quality control. We print everything in our Las Vegas workshop on four Bambu Lab printers, running daily.

The Rivian owner community gave us our next direction. People kept asking about upper storage — a way to keep quick-access items separate from deeper storage. That's when we designed the sliding upper tray: a smooth-gliding layer that sits above the deep lower bin, giving you two distinct levels of organized storage.

The 3.5-inch deep tray became our most popular configuration. Owners told us it was the first time everything in their console had a place.

What We Fixed in the Latest Version

The early versions were good. The latest version is better.

A handful of owners in spirited driving conditions noticed the upper tray could shift under hard acceleration or braking. It wasn't dangerous — just annoying, and not acceptable to us. So we redesigned the slide mechanism with tighter tolerances and added resistance geometry that keeps the tray exactly where you put it, whether you're cruising at highway speed or putting the R1T through its paces on a trail.

The result: zero rattle. Zero movement. An OEM-level feel that several customers have described as something that "doesn't feel like an aftermarket product."

Why Material Choice Matters More Than You Think

We print exclusively in PETG for structural interior components, and TPU where grip and vibration dampening are needed. This is a deliberate choice, not a cost decision.

PLA — the most common 3D printing material — softens at relatively low temperatures. A car interior on a hot day in Nevada, Texas, or Arizona can easily exceed that threshold. You'd end up with a warped tray and a mess.

PETG holds its shape reliably at automotive interior temperatures, resists impact, and has a clean matte finish that blends naturally with Rivian's interior aesthetic. It's the right material for the application, and it's what we'd want in our own truck — which, to be clear, it is.

What 80+ Rivian Owners Are Saying

We've now shipped to more than 80 Rivian R1S and R1T owners across the country. Every single review has been five stars.

A few things come up consistently:

  • The fit: Owners are surprised by how precisely it drops in. No adjustment. No shimming. No wiggling.
  • The silence: Multiple customers specifically mention that it doesn't rattle — which they note after being disappointed by other products that did.
  • The transformation: Several owners say it's the first Rivian accessory that made them feel like the interior was finally complete.

One owner who said he'd tried four different console organizers called ours the last one he'd ever need to buy.

Fits Both R1S and R1T — All Model Years

The organizer is designed and tested in both the Rivian R1T and R1S. All model years. It drops into the factory center console without modification, tools, or adapters.

Coming soon: a fixed full-length tray and a divided tray variant, for owners who prefer a non-sliding configuration.
